I enter a kitchen with cups strewn across the floor. I could make him put them away but they aren’t really in the way and he’s so absorbed in some unknown task that making trouble doesn’t seem to be on the agenda. Stepping over the chaos, I head to the stove to make lunch. After the pot has been filled but before the water begins tho boil, he has arranged the cups into families of color. I take a moment to soak in his words.  “Now let’s measure how many cups tall mine bottle is.”.

The natural process of learning is a beautiful and wondrous thing … a sacred thing.  Handle with care.
